About Gravity Shifts

Gravity Shifts is a project that seeks to collect stories about gravity: the feeling of gravity, the effects of gravity, how interactions and perceptions of gravity have changed, enlightened or weighed down our lives.  The most basic of forces in our universe, gravity is so pervasive that it is often taken for granted.   It keeps us on the earth, moves the tides in and out, attracts one mass to another, and draws our attention to things that seem to defy it.  As gravity binds us all together and tethers our planet to the rest of the universe, it entangles each of us, and our stories, with each other.  This project is an attempt to reflect part of that entanglement.

Illustrations of the stories documented here will by used by artist Jeremy Wineberg.  Their imagery will be woven together in a kaleidoscopic installation in cooperation with the Bubbler at the Diane Endres Ballweg Art Gallery at Madison Central Library in Madison, WI.  The installation, Gravity Shifts, will be on view in July and August of 2015.

Do you have something to contribute?  An encounter with the force of gravity?  caught in an incoming or outgoing tide? a tragic fall? an unexplainable attraction?  Does your research involve the force of gravity?  any eye opening results? Gravity Shifts is actively soliciting stories: personal, poignant, silly, strange, mystical, factual, scientific or invented.  All are welcome.  Send yours in an email to artshiftsgravity@gmail.com
